Do you want to use Screenflow for videos and strip the audio for your podcast?

This tutorial will show you how to export the audio-only from your Screenflow 8 project.

Note for podcasters:

If exporting the audio from Screenflow, you will need to convert the file to an mp3 so you can upload to your podcast hosting platform. If you do not want to convert to an mp3 file, then use AAC/m4a.

Resources to convert to .mp3:

1. Use an audio editor such as Adobe Audition, GarageBand, Audacity.
2. Go to Auphonic.com and convert the file to .mp3 (sweeten the audio, raise levels to broadcast standards, reduce noise, etc).

How To Export Audio Only in Screenflow

There are two main ways to export audio-only from Screenflow 8.

1. Using Preset Drop-down from Export Menu
2. Clicking ‘Customize’ and unchecking Video (my preferred method)

1. How To Export Audio Only in Screenflow (Preset drop-down):

1. Go to File Menu
2. Click on Export
3. Click on Manual Tab
4. Click on the Preset Drop-down menu
5. Select ‘Lossless-Audio only’ (uncompressed .aiff audio file)
6. Select ‘AAC-Audio only’ for a (compressed AAC .m4a file)audio
7. Click OK
8. Name File
9. Choose Destination
10. Click ‘Export’
11. Convert to mp3 file
12. Upload to your podcast hosting platform

2. How To Export Audio Only in Screenflow (Customize):

This is my preferred method as there are more options for audio settings

1. Go to File Menu
2. Click on Export
3. Click on ‘Customize’
4. Uncheck the box for ‘H.264 Video’
5. Check the box for ‘AAC Audio’
6. Change Sample Rate (optional) to 44.1
7. Change Data Rate (optional) to 128 or 96
8. Channels (Mono or Stereo) Mono is good for spoken word podcasts.
9. Click ‘OK’
10. Name File
11. Choose Destination
12. Click ‘Export’
13. Convert to mp3 file (or not)
14. Upload to your podcast hosting platform
