194: How To Deregister an Amazon Echo

Purpose of tutorial:
To show you how to deregister an Amazon Echo or Dot
Who is this for?
Did you get an Amazon Echo or Dot and during setup you discover it is registered to the person who sent it to you?
Did you send an Amazon Echo or Dot and that person called you and said, thanks a lot, but I think you sent me your old Echo because it’s registered to you?
Solution if device is registered to someone else: you just need to deregister the device and this video will show you how (it’s easy):

Why would you deregister an Amazon Alexa device?
- You want to give away your Amazon Echo or Dot to someone else.
- You receive an Echo or Dot and it is registered to the person who sent it to you.
- You send someone an Echo or Dot from Amazon and realize you forgot to check the ‘Gift Box’…you still have time to deregister before or after they receive gift from you to make it easier on them to set up.
Note: If you have been using an Echo and want to give it away, you will want to Deregister and Reset to Factory Defaults.
How to Purchase an Echo or Dot as a Gift?
-Purchasing an Amazon Echo or Dot as a gift?
-Be sure to tick the checkbox at Checkout that says ‘This is a gift’. Otherwise, the device will be registered to you when the person receives it.
-If you receive an Alexa-type gift from someone who did not check the “This is a Gift Box’, it will be registered to them
To Deregister an Amazon Echo or Dot:
Log in to to Amazon
Click on your Name…Accounts & Lists (where you manage things)
Scroll down and click ‘Your Content & Devices’
Click on the Middle Tab, ‘Your Devices’
Click on the Device
Click the Dropdown menu and select ‘Deregister’
Deregistering removes all content from the device, but you can always re-download everything or register device again if needed.
Device will disappear from Your Devices once you deregister
Now you can set up as new device
