162: Convert Vertical iPhone Video to Horizontal YouTube Video using Premiere Pro CC
You accidentally shot a vertical video but need horizontal?
Maybe you want to use the videos from your Instagram Stories as a YouTube video?
3 Easy Solutions in Premiere Pro CC
(the concept will work in any video editor, though)
Solution 1 (Place Vertical Video in Center)
Create New Sequence (DSLR 1080p30fps)
Drag vertical video in timeline.
Vertical video will play in center with black bars

Solution 2 (Scale up to Fill)
Scale Up Video to Fill Entire Frame
Create New Sequence (DSLR 1080p30fps)
Drag Vertical Video on Timeline
In Effect Controls…Scale video up to fit.
Use Position to place video how you want it.
Fill window and now you have wide video

Solution 3 (Make Abstract Background from Original Video)
Create New Sequence (DSLR 1080p30fps)
Drag Vertical Video on Timeline
Duplicate (Option-Drag Below Original)
Select Bottom Copy…Go To Effect Controls…
Scale Background Layer Way up
In Effects search for Gaussian Blur & Lumetri and Drag On
Adjust Gaussian Blur until you like the look
Play with Lumetri and change exposure, add colors
On Top Layer Add Drop Shadow to separate from background
