Quick Tip: What is Aspect Ratio?

Aspect Ratio is the relationship/ratio of Width To Height.
The first number is always width (horizontal):
The second number is always height (vertical)

16:9 is common aspect ratio (HD Video).
16 is width: 9 is height

1920 x 1080 is 16:9 Aspect Ratio (YouTube videos)
1080 x 1920 is 9:16 Aspect Ratio (Instagram Stories)

1280 x 720 is 16:9 Aspect Ratio (The original HD Video)
720 x 1280 is 9:16 Aspect Ratio (Vertical)

1080 x 1080 is 1:1 Aspect Ratio (Square…Works great on Instagram)

Common Aspect Ratios:

16:9 (HD Video)
4:3 (iPad)
4:5 (8x10)
2:3 (4x6)
1:1 (Square)

Instagram Stories Correct Size:

1080 pixels wide by 1920 pixels tall (height)
9:16 aspect ratio

Note:
You could also use 720x1280 (9:16) and it would look exactly the same

Trivia:

Divide the Width by 16 and Height by 9 and it will be same number

1920/16 = 120
1080/9 = 120

1280/16 = 80
720/9 = 80

How Do You Find Aspect Ratios in Premiere Pro CC?

In Premiere Pro:
Go To File > New Sequence (cmd + n)
Go To Settings Tab
Video Frame: Enter in Horizontal (Width) or Vertical (Height)
Premiere will auto-generate Aspect Ratio
