The Tilde (~) Key also known as The BackQuote Key (`) is often overlooked or forgotten, but it is oh so handy. You may also hear it referred to as the Accent or Grave (`) Key:

The Tilde Key

On a MacBook Pro Keyboard it lives in the upper left corner under the Escape Key and next to the Number 1.

The Tilde (~) or Backquote/Grave (`) Keyboard Shortcut maximizes any panel that is highlighted (look for the think blue line outlining any panel in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, etc)

The Tilde Key (~) Shortcut is great when you want to focus in on one area of your video/audio editor or maximize the window so you can see it better. I use this a lot in Adobe After Effects when I want to maximize the Timeline and move keyframes around or in Premiere I use it a lot when I add keyframes to the audio waveform and I want to see the audio tracks bigger.

Once you remember to use it, you’ll be using it all the time when editing video and audio.
