Classic SM58
The Shure SM58 is one of the most recognizable microphones on the planet. It’s the microphone you often see on stage anywhere live music is being performed. The reason this mic is so popular is that it is simple in design, its basically indestructible and rugged and it sounds like most Shure microphones: excellent. My #sm58 is just about 30 years old and it is still the same price ($99) as when I bought it and it works exactly the same as the day I bought it.
Fact: Ernie Seeler, the engineer who invented the SM58 did not like rock-n-roll.
Podcasting
I do not hear this microphone being recommended to podcasters very often, but this is a staple for me in my mobile podcasting kit. It’s dynamic so it rejects rear noise/ambience really well, sounds fantastic and it travels well. It also makes for a great Instagram model.
I’m a big fan of the #sm58 and have used it on several location episodes and paired up with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or 6i6 or Zoom H6, this is a solid podcasting combination.
