Tools & Tips #10: Phantom Power
Condenser Microphones Need Phantom Power
Dynamic Microphones do not Require Phantom Power*
What the heck is Phantom Power? Most audio interfaces and mixers and anything you use to power your microphone has a button that may say +48v or Phantom Power.
Phantom Power is nothing more than a DC electrical current being sent through your cables to power Condenser Microphones. Condenser microphones are more sensitive than dynamic microphones and need this steady +48v power to make them work.
- **Condenser microphones that require phantom power will not work if you plug into a mixer or interface and Phantom Power is off.
I am available for hire or collaborations if you are smarter than me and know how you might need a strategic thinker with a lot of technical knowledge and creative skills. I’m still figuring out how I can make a living being me.
