My happy place is packing up my backpack, hopping on my bike and deciding whether to go right or left when I get to the beach road. It doesn’t matter to me which direction I pick because I’m going to enjoy it either way. I spend a lot of my free time stretching my creativity and just trying new things.
In the photo above, I needed ambient sounds for an upcoming podcast, but of course that is going to turn into a photo opportunity. Everything does. I am a hobby photographer but there are very few hobbies I enjoy doing more. It’s that feeling of making something just because.
Do your thing
My attention has been focused on Instagram and now Instagram Stories because it’s what feels right to me. I like being around creative people. Musicians, letterers, graphic designers, photographers, travelers, writers etc. I get inspired in all parts of my life when someone creates a piece of art that impacts me or makes me laugh or flat out blows me away. There is never too much creative inspiration for me. It motivates me and really just makes me happy to be living in a world with so many talented folks sharing their creations.
In the past two weeks I have been advised to put more focus on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. That I should do more guest interviews on podcasts and that I should start interviewing on my podcast. I should do a webinar and post my podcast archives on YouTube…..All things I should do. Thank you. I responded to one friend that I put most of my focus and effort into Instagram and the immediate response was that Instagram, like Snapchat were fun and cute, but not sustainable or good for business. I just laugh and smile.
Yet, I also think of how many people I know and encounter online who listen to advice from everywhere and get so confused and overwhelmed and paralyzed by what to do next. The only expert that matters is you. We all know what feels right. Go there. For me, it’s being around creatives. People who would rather go to the dentist than spend 5 minutes on LinkedIn. I am carving my own creative path that may or may not work, but I’m giving it everything I have. I work really hard to ‘play’ on Instagram & Snapchat (not so much anymore, sorry).
I’m lost in a rant and need to close it down. Bottom Line: Listen to advice, but do not let it change who you are. Success is not the result of a platform. Ever. You are what you make of everything. Make your own choices. I choose happiness.
